The Difference Between Successful Traders And The Other 95%…

That’s right…only 5% of traders that start out make it past their second year. Does that shock you?

It actually shouldn’t and here is the reason why: Only 5% of traders really treat this like a business. The other 95% treat it like a hobby.

Some of the smartest people in the world fail in this business. That includes, doctors, lawyers, engineers, CPA’s and CEO’s. Many professionals prepare for their career by going to college for four, six , or even ten years. Then they get a job and begin to learn the ropes from other seasoned professionals, and it may take years of experience before they make it to the top in their field.

These same smart people have now conquered thier mountain and have possibly achieved some great things. They hear about trading and become intrigued. They think, “Hey I have conquered my field, I am smart, I am a professional…this trading stuff is gonna be a breeze.

They read three books on technical analysis, read the Wall Street Journal for a couple of weeks and they believe they are now prepared to do battle in one of the fiercest, most competitive environments in the world.

This is as far from professional as you can get, but thousands of people before you have done it and done it to the tune of lsoing a lot of money.

So if we want to be in the top 5% we have to do things differently. With that said their are some character traits that I have seen over the years by rubbing elbows with “consistently successful” traders. I would like to share these characteristics with you.

1. Traders that are consistently successful year after year are very methodical and they use a simple strategy. They do not change their system from day to day. They are not swayed by the latest and greatest promise of overnight trading riches. First, they prove their system through rigourous testing (not just one or two years of data). Then they make sure that it works in multiple markets not just on one. Before they make changes to the system they want to know why and they ask questions like, did this improve the system over the long run or is it just a change that improves a small amount of data. Once they have proven the system, they follow it to the letter. This gives them a great advantage. They do not deviate from the plan. My Advent Forex System has been tested and proven to hold out over the long haul. It is mechanical and methodical.

2. Successful traders do not try to make things happen. If the system gives them a signal they take it. If the system does not give them a signal they don’t do anything. The sooner you realize that you can only take what the market is willing to give you the better off you will be. The market is always moving somewhere, but movement doesn’t equal opportunity. Like one old trader Jessie Livermore used to say, “the greatest lesson I ever learned in trading was how to sit on my hands.

3. Successful trader know how to keep trading through rough patches. A successful attorney doesn’t quite they lost a case. They don’t even quite if they lose 5 cases in a row. Thier career is not summed up in those five cases. It is summed up by all of their hundreds or thousands of cases combined. A professional NFL quarterback, doesn’t sit on the bench the rest of the game because they threw an interception. As good as they are they are not perfect. If they throw an interception they step right back into the pocket the next time and throw the ball again. Professional traders are the same way. They may have 5, 7, or 9 losing trades in a row, but because they don’t sum thier trading up by just a few trades they trade right through it. I teach you how to do this as part of mentoring program. You get the support of being on a team that all have the same goal in mind: to win the Super Bowl so to speak.

4. This brings me to my next point about successful traders: They want to be the best and they want to be rich. Let’s face it, that is why you are really here. You are expecting your trading to pay off in big dividends and make you a lot of money. If you can’t picture yourself like that then you are following the wrong guy. I only surround myself with people that think like this. I don’t want to sabotage my trading through poor minded thinking. I am in this business and put my money on the line every day because I want to be the best and I want to keep score. That means I want my trading account to be larger than anyone elses. You have to have that competitive edge in order to make it as a trader.

5. Lastly, successful traders all have a successful mentor. Just like many successful attorney’s were the protegee of the precious generation hot shot. Warren Buffett learned from Ben Graham. Jim rogers learned from George Soros and so on and so on. They all modified the techniques they learned, but they all had mentors that helped guide them and that influenced them at first. When the light clicked on for me, it was because I found the right mentor. Things finally started to make sense. I still learn from mentors today. Some I have personal relationship with and others I just read their material. If I find something good I test it and if it works I implement it.

I always teach people to take ownership of the information they gather. I don’t mean to plagerize, I simply mean to use it for yourself and see if you can improve it. You can always learn from people, especially if you are brand new to this.

If you are already successful then that is ok too. Doctors, attorney’s, professional athletes all continue to try and improve and become better. Why should being a trader be any different?

Hopefully you have learned something from me already without even having become a part of my Advent Forex Mentorship program. You see I have taken ownership of my trading and that is what I teach my protigees to do.

The Advent Forex Mentorship program is not currently open to new students, but don’t let that stop you. But make sure you base your trading decisions on these 5 criteria before you get started with anything. My biggest piece of advice I can give you is to test it and prove it first.
